Raipur Wellness Initiative Strengthens Mental Health Support for Catholic Sisters
Catholic Connect reports that Catholic sisters from different congregations gathered in Raipur for a residential programme focused on mental health and community well-being.

The initiative matters because care for those who serve others is part of whole-person care: stress, emotional health and the quality of community life shape how we walk alongside people in ministry.
Practical support, shared across congregations
The Inter-Congregational Wellness Programme was organised by the Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) India with the SMMI Raipur Province. Held at the SMMI Provincial House, it brought participants together for sessions on emotional health, relationships, stress management and personal wellness.
The programme’s emphasis was practical as well as reflective. Participants explored emotional difficulties and mental-health concerns, and considered ways to respond with greater awareness, compassion and appropriate support. That focus is familiar to nurses: noticing distress is only a first step; people also need a setting where they can speak honestly and be heard without losing their dignity.
Community is part of the care
Organisers highlighted the value of communities in which members feel accepted, valued and accompanied. The programme also connected mental health with Christian spirituality, encouraging participants to recognise Christ in every person, particularly those experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.
For healthcare teams, that is a meaningful reminder that support does not belong only in a consultation room. A culture that makes room for open conversation can help reduce stigma and make seeking professional or pastoral help feel like a constructive step, not a failure. The report does not detail specific clinical services or referral arrangements, so the programme is best understood as a wellness and formation initiative rather than a treatment service.
A wider effort, with more to come
Catholic Connect reports that CMHM India has worked with about 20 congregations of women religious through mental-health and wellness initiatives. The Raipur gathering offered a space for shared learning and mutual support across congregations, and CMHM India plans further inter-congregational programmes and conferences in other parts of the country.
We know how easily the people who hold communities together can put their own needs last. Making time for emotional well-being is not separate from ministry; it helps sustain the presence, compassion and practical care that others depend on.
